We are! First United Methodist Church-Sikeston is the largest church in the ‘bootheel’ of Missouri and had a wide and diverse ministry impact. We are known for our large mission events and excellent worship. Since Covid we have invested in our online community, and recently completely renovated our First Kids space. All to say we are constantly creating, innovating, adapting and having fun.


We are currently seeking a full-time Modern Worship Leader to lead our Journey Worship. An ideal candidate for this position is someone Christ-centered, creative, excellent leadership and team building, organized, detailed oriented, adaptive to change and committed to mission of First UMC (leading people in new life with Jesus).


Must have previous experience modern church worship; experience recruiting and leading worship/music teams; and strong computer (Media Shout/ProPresenter, Planning Center) and technology skills (sound systems and lighting). Ideal candidate will have some experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier) and social media platforms.



Job description will be adjusted according to maximize candidate’s skills and gifts. Journey Worship Leader reports to the Lead Pastor, and works in collaboration with the Worship Design Team (Pastors, Traditions Worship Leader, Online Coordinator, and other unpaid leaders). Responsible for creating and leading passionate worship experiences; building and leading worship teams; overseeing sound, media, lighting and any other worship technologies.

Church Leadership

  • Actively cultivate faith life through the First UMC Five Spiritual Practices: worship, growing in Growth Groups, giving, serving and inviting.

  • Participate in staff meetings, worship planning meetings, and sermon preview.

  • Participate, coordinate and support other First UMC ministry areas.

  • Actively grow the next generation of leaders, and adapt ministries to the ever-changing world.

Worship Leadership

  • Recruit, train and coordinate volunteer musicians, sound, media (projection), and environmental design teams.

  • Planning and preparing modern worship music.

  • Coordinate with Online Coordinator and Video Technician on online worship experience.

  • Work with Worship Design Team to coordinate special worship services.


  • Recommend and implement necessary technical upgrades.

  • Coordinate sound/media for special events (funerals, weddings, etc).

  • Maintain and repair worship equipment.


  • Prefer experience coordinating social media communications.

  • Prefer experience coordinating simple video production.


COMPENSATION:  Is competitive based on experience. Full-Time Range $40,000-$50,000+.
